JEWELLERY HOUSES · SIX FILMS

The Art of
Precious Detail

Fabergé, Buccellati, Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels and Boucheron

MY SELECTION

I have brought these six films together to accompany my essay on the jewellery houses I am looking towards.

A historical talk sits alongside shorter films on design, creative collaboration, material experimentation and coloured stones. I chose them to deepen the conversation around The Sovereign Within and the qualities I admire in exceptional jewellery.

I chose Kieran McCarthy’s talk to place Fabergé within its historical world. I want to look beyond the richness of the finished objects and consider the ambition and relationships behind them. It gives context to the house that first helped me imagine the precious detail of The Sovereign Within.

02 · CURATED FILM

The Art of Buccellati — Celebrating 100 Years of Italian Creativity

Publisher
Sotheby’s
Watch at Sotheby’s (opens in a new tab)

I selected this conversation with Maria Cristina Buccellati for its attention to tradition, creativity and craftsmanship. I am interested in how a house develops a recognisable character through the treatment of its materials. It connects with the gold surfaces and intricate relationships between stone and setting that I explored in my artwork.

03 · CURATED FILM

How Cartier Jewellery Is Made: Creative Dialogues

Publisher
Cartier
Watch at Cartier (opens in a new tab)

I want to understand how an imaginative idea develops through a dialogue with technical skill. This Cartier film is a reference point for thinking about the whole object: form, setting and finish working together. In my digital practice, I return to that question of how each small decision supports the presence of the piece.

04 · CURATED FILM

Designer, the Origin of the Creation

Publisher
Van Cleef & Arpels

I chose this film because it brings the preparatory image into view, from the initial drawing to the finished gouache used for a model. I am drawn to that movement between imagination and construction. It helps me reflect on how a carefully developed design can carry emotion before the final object exists.

05 · CURATED FILM

Nature Triomphante, Fleurs Éternelles

Publisher
Boucheron
Watch at Boucheron (opens in a new tab)

I am exploring Boucheron as a reference point for material experimentation. This film introduces jewellery incorporating stabilised real flower petals, bringing a different understanding of preciousness into the collection. I chose it to open a conversation about what materials can express, alongside the gold and gemstones simulated in The Sovereign Within.

06 · CURATED FILM

How Cartier Jewellery Is Made: The Art of Colored Stones

Publisher
Cartier
Watch at Cartier (opens in a new tab)

I included a second Cartier film to focus on gemstone colour and selection. The stones in my artwork were chosen deliberately, and I want viewers to consider how colour, placement and the character of a stone change the feeling of the whole composition. This is a companion to looking closely at the crown and collar macro studies.
